Burere is a long-standing SHED and Village Life partner community whose residents, schools and committees have been involved in education, nutrition, water and infrastructure work. Projects have included school construction efforts, feeding and education programs and community water initiatives.
SHED helps organize communication among schools, parents, village leaders, local committees, engineers and donors. That coordination allows projects to respond to community priorities and creates a local structure for maintenance and accountability after outside teams depart.
Burere is another example of SHED's community-based implementation model: external resources are brought into a framework in which the village itself remains an active participant rather than a passive recipient.
