Our Work Together
Sota was central to SHED's earliest independent health work and to the development of Sota Clinic. The clinic began in rented premises and later moved into a permanent facility, providing preventive and curative care, maternal and child health services, Burkitt lymphoma treatment and follow-up, and a base for research and visiting health professionals.
Key Projects or Contributions
SHED's experience in Sota helped establish the model that shaped later partnerships: start with a real community need, build reliable local services, then use relationships with donors, researchers and medical institutions to expand what those services can do. Because SHED was locally based, outside support could be integrated into an existing program rather than creating a temporary parallel service.
Why the Partnership Mattered
Sota therefore represents both a community partnership and an important part of SHED's institutional history — evidence that the Foundation's later international work grew out of long-term local service.
