Community implementation partner.
Roche is not simply a community that receives SHED projects; its residents, leaders and local committees are partners in implementation. Roche has been central to SHED and Village Life work in health, clean water, education, nutrition and infrastructure, including the development of the Roche Health Center campus.
Community committees help identify priorities, provide local knowledge, participate in decisions, manage systems and communicate problems. SHED works with those committees continuously, connecting them with engineers, health professionals, donors and government authorities. That structure creates accountability in both directions: outside partners understand local needs, while community members have a recognized role in how projects are carried out.
SHED's partnership model depends on this local ownership. Funding and technical expertise may come from outside, but projects are more likely to last when community members are part of planning, implementation and maintenance from the beginning.
