Our Work Together
Village Life Outreach Project is SHED Foundation's principal and longest-running international partner and has been central to SHED's development work in Roche, Nyambogo and Burere. The partnership has combined health care, clean water, education, school nutrition, infrastructure and community development rather than treating those needs as isolated problems. Working together, SHED and Village Life have helped create and sustain projects that include Roche Health Center, village water systems, school feeding and education activities, health outreach, community committees and the infrastructure needed to support visiting medical, engineering and university teams.
Key Projects or Contributions
SHED's role in this partnership is continuous and operational. SHED works with village governments and local committees, identifies needs, coordinates meetings, prepares budgets and local purchases, manages staff and contractors, supports accounting and reporting, arranges transportation and accommodation, works with government authorities, and remains responsible for day-to-day follow-through between Village Life visits. When international teams arrive, SHED makes sure the people, facilities, communities and logistics are ready; when those teams leave, SHED remains on the ground to keep the work moving.
Why the Partnership Mattered
This is why the relationship has endured: Village Life can bring resources, volunteers and outside expertise because SHED provides the local institutional platform that turns those inputs into programs that can function year-round. The partnership also illustrates SHED's ability to manage multiple objectives at once — a water project may require engineers, committees, government coordination and maintenance planning while a health project requires clinical staff, referrals, supplies and reporting — allowing Village Life's investments to become part of a broader and more sustainable local development strategy.
