Shirati KMT Hospital is one of SHED's most important local health partners and has been connected to SHED's work across clinical services, referrals, research and international professional engagement. As a major hospital serving Rorya District, KMT provides clinical infrastructure and specialist capacity that complement SHED's community-based work and relationships.
The current sickle cell clinic collaboration illustrates the partnership clearly. SHED provides program ownership, donor engagement, sustainability planning, financial support and oversight, while Shirati KMT Hospital provides the day-to-day clinical setting, staff administration and facility infrastructure required to deliver care. SHED therefore functions as the organization that mobilizes resources and manages the broader program, while the hospital supplies the clinical environment in which those resources become services for patients.
SHED does not need to duplicate institutions that already exist. Instead, we build partnerships that allow each institution to contribute what it does best, while SHED coordinates the funding, governance, communication and local follow-through needed to keep the program functioning.
