The Burkitt's Lymphoma Fund for Africa was a major supporter of SHED's childhood-cancer work. Its support helped SHED strengthen services for children with Burkitt lymphoma and contributed to the development of a permanent Sota health facility after years of working from rented premises.
The partnership also helped connect SHED with outside medical resources, including chemotherapy medicines and supplies obtained with support from Direct Relief. SHED provided the local clinical and logistical structure: identifying children, coordinating referral and treatment, providing follow-up care, supporting families and maintaining a facility in a region where specialized cancer services were difficult to access.
This partnership illustrates SHED's ability to combine donor funding, international medical resources and local clinical delivery around a highly specific health need. SHED could make outside generosity useful because it had the staff, facilities and patient relationships required to turn resources into ongoing care.
