Our Work Together
Through the NCI-led EMBLEM study, SHED worked within the broader National Institutes of Health research system on a major investigation of childhood Burkitt lymphoma in East Africa. NIH investigators and technical teams contributed scientific expertise in epidemiology, biostatistics, laboratory science, information systems and infectious-disease research, while SHED and its Tanzanian collaborators provided the local implementation structure needed to carry out the study in the field.
Key Projects or Contributions
SHED's value in this network was its ability to connect a sophisticated international research enterprise with real clinical and community settings across northern Tanzania. SHED coordinated staff, transport, local communication, hospital relationships, research administration and field logistics while supporting standardized study procedures — handling both the practical realities of rural Tanzania and the documentation and consistency expected by international researchers.
